I love amethyst, and so do the caddisfly larvae who created these cases.  When amethyst is broken into pieces small enough for the caddisfly to build with, it will lose its deep purple color. But the bottom stones still have some purple color in them.  Still very beautiful artwork by my caddisfly larva.
